Using A Walking Fitness Routine To Boost Your Metabolic Rate

Most of us know some (lucky) person who seems to be able to eat as much as they want without putting on any weight. However, as unfair as it seems, for most of us, just looking at food is enough to pile on extra weight.

The explanation for this is simply the fact that different individuals have different metabolisms. Our skinny friends have a higher metabolic rate than us. This means that they use calories more quickly than the average person. That’s why they don’t put on weight as readily as the average person. In fact, you would gain weight very much more slowly if you could just raise your metabolic rate – or you would lose it more quickly if you were following some weight loss program.

It would be quite understandable to feel hard done to and out of luck, metabolically. However, there is a very well proven method, which is relatively easy to do, for increasing your metabolic rate. Regular exercise – it needn’t be anything too strenuous – has been shown to increase the metabolism and lead to calories being burned at a faster rate.

The really good news is that, if you can raise your metabolic rate, you will be burning calories more quickly for the whole day. Of course, you will burn some calories when you are actually exercising – but that’s not the main benefit.

When you’re reading a book, surfing the net, doing some household chores – even when you’re asleep – you will be using up calories at a higher rate than normal. That can make an enormous difference to the rate at which you shed weight.

The key is to take exercise on a regular basis. A half hour walk, three times a week could be enough to make a difference. If you can manage to walk five times a week, or maybe walk a little longer, then that’s just so much better. The key thing is consistency – as long as you have that, there’s no need to get all hot sweaty and out of breath.

It’s just one of the reasons why walking for weight loss is so efficient. There are any number of additional health benefits to be gained from a walking workout program – and it’s a form of exercise that needs no training or special equipment. Consider also the fact that you can fit walking into your daily routine whenever it suits you best and you’ll begin to understand just how powerful a walking exercise program can be.
